The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² Will Give You a Testosterone Shot Just From Looking at It

It’s been well over half a year since Mercedes-AMG uncovered the brand-new 4×4², which is based on the second-generation G-Class, in the G 63 configuration, and we’re still mesmerized by it. But how could you not be in today’s car industry that is overcrowded with crossovers and electric vehicles?

You’re looking at one fine piece of overlanding machinery, which is ready to conquer the great outdoors straight from the factory. Mind you, we’d add some grippier tires than the ones equipping the stock 22-inch alloys, and we’d also give it some steel bumpers, a winch, and raptor paint to keep that boxy body safe from scratches, but other than that, it doesn’t really need anything more, because it does feature things that aren’t that common among OEM vehicles.

Portal axles are but one feature that you can write home about, which will help the off-roader go over some even more serious obstacles, aided by the huge ground clearance and the performance put out by the bi-turbo V8. But more on the engine in a moment, as we also have to mention the oversized fenders, which contribute to the elevated stance over the regular G 63. The G 63 4×4² also sports additional lights above the front windscreen, upholstery that is exclusive to this model, digital rearview mirror, and special start up on the digital instrument cluster.

As we are certain you already know, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is identical to the one powering the Mercedes-AMG G 63. It develops 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, delivering the thrust to the four-wheel drive through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Flat-out, the normal G 63 will eventually run out of breath at 137 mph (220 kph), and it can hit 60 mph (97 kph) in 4.5 seconds from naught. However, the G 63 4×4² is bigger and therefore heavier, so it is slower too. We cannot tell you about the sprint time, nor the top speed, because the Affalterbach brand is keeping these details close to its chest, but it’s definitely no slouch either. As a matter of fact, it has enough grunt to attack some very steep hills and to perform some safe overtakes.

We have yet to decide what color works best on the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4², though the palette is vast, and it can become even vaster should you decide to go for a custom wrap. Nonetheless, if you feel like this beast looks best in green, then you have come to the right place, as the pictured example sports such a hue. Also, chances are that you haven’t seen one dressed in green ever since the grand unveiling last summer, so it’s definitely worth a second look.

Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 Squared Has a ‘Hint’ of Brabus, Enjoys Its Natural Habitat on RDBs

Going against the norm is quite hard to do, these days – even though we may be living under the impression that we can innovate at the breath of a whim. But the truth is most people just recycle or upcycle what others do.

Unfortunately, that applies to the automotive business, as well. No matter how much some people try to stand out in a crowd, now everything is about crossovers, SUVs, and trucks – rather than old-fashioned passenger cars. And while there is ample choice, the stratosphere of ultra-luxury builds is – as they say – truly rarefied.

But let me give you an example, as there is no need to take our word for granted. Aston Martin DBX707, Lamborghini Urus (now also S and Performante), Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and the 715-hp Ferrari Purosangue, or the 738-hp BMW XM Label Red. These are (mostly) the choices at the summit of the ultra-luxury super-SUV game. Just beneath it, there is a plateau of many other options – like Range Rover, Caddy Escalade, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and Lexus LX – that rarely rise to the occasion of being seen as counterparts of $500k+ vehicles.

No worries, though, as Mercedes has recently found a solution – they quite literally lifted the Mercedes-AMG G 63 to the 4×4 Squared lifestyle and from there they aim to dominate the crossover-SUV-based ultra-ritzy competition. Alas, of course, many people still treat the newly minted monster like a mall crawler. Not the good folks over at Hollywood, California-based RDB LA, though. They have yet another YouTube vlog episode out, and we need to be quick to address the cool novelties because they are pretty stunning, indeed.

First and foremost, the team has just taken delivery of a yellow-and-carbon-fiber Lambo Urus Performante and after everyone circled the new apparition they decided to try and make it the first widebody transformation in the world. Until they manage to do that and beat so many other affluent and well-known aftermarket outlets (like Platinum Motorsport Group, if you need a Kim K-approved example), they also wrapped the morphing of a Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 Squared into a true beast of an off-roader.

Dressed in as much black as possible without calling it a murdered-out SUV (mainly due to the RDB Wheels, of course), the G 63 4×4 Squared is not a Mercedes-AMG anymore but rather a one-of-a-kind, unique Brabus that was fitted with as many mods possible – including the “carbon hood scoop and Brabus Widestar front bumper that is not even made for this car!” Instead, they quickly custom-fabricated it and now fits like a dark and menacing, heavily lifted charm. In the end, they also went out of their way (and outside the city) to bring it into a G’s natural element – even when riding on those brushed Aerodisc-style monoblock RDB ‘Zero’ wheels!

Mercedes-AMG G 63 Says Yes to Steroid Shots, Gets a Pink Cockpit and More Power Too

What would your ideal Mercedes-AMG G 63 look like? Did you say stock, bar new wheels perhaps? Well, then you’re not going to like the pictured example, which is not a bad thing per se, as it does come from a very controversial tuner. Yep, we’re talking about Mansory, which is back after giving more than a few minty touches to one particular Rolls-Royce Cullinan recently.

Named the Mansory P850, this Mercedes-AMG G 63 sports the whole package, namely updates inside and out, and a power boost. And don’t think that the ‘P850’ part of its new given name is a hint at how much power it has, because it is actually punchier than that. But more on the oomph in just a few moments, as first we’ll start with the obvious, which is the wide body kit.

Comprising fender flares at the front and rear, it sports new side skirts too, the usual attachments at both ends, and a more muscular hood with double nostrils and forged carbon finish. The Panamericana grille with vertical slats, which has become a signature touch of almost all modern-day vehicles developed in Affalterbach, was signed by Mansory too, and so were the two roof attachments, one of which brings auxiliary lights above the front windscreen, and the other a more aggressive look. There are additional lights in the front bumper too, and a few extra bits and bobs.

Dig the looks of those new wheels? They were signed by Mansory too. They’re called the FD.15, and they measure 24 inches in diameter. The entire build, or most of it anyway, features a satin black design, and was decorated by new logos that replace the traditional three-pointed star emblems. These were also replicated on the inside, where the controversial tuner gave it pink leather upholstery. This was wrapped around the seats, door cards, dashboard, center console, pillars, steering wheel, and other touchable parts. The headrests and seatbelts sport Mansory’s name, and there is some white piping too for some well-deserved contrast, and relocated push-start button.

Last but not least, Mansory can increase the power numbers to new levels. There are multiple choices available, including the range-topping proposal, which brings 900 ps (887 hp/662 kW) and 1,200 Nm (885 lb-ft) of torque to the party. That is significantly more than what the bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 produces with no outside intervention. Thanks to the 585 ps (577 hp/430 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft), the stock G 63 takes a little over four and a half seconds to hit 100 kph (62 mph) and maxes out at 220 kph (137 mph). Unfortunately, the tuner hasn’t disclosed the new performance numbers, but we reckon that the sprint time has dropped to under four seconds.

Does the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Look Better Without the Panamericana Grille?

Almost all high-end AMGs, from the A 45 to the S 63, and from the GLA 45 to the G 63, sport the Panamericana grille with vertical slats. It has become a symbol of cars born in Affalterbach and a very good way to tell them apart from the regular Benz vehicles.

As a matter of fact, the Panamericana grille is so popular among Mercedes owners that there are numerous aftermarket companies that have one in store for almost all models. What we do not often see, however, is a full-blown modern-day AMG that features a different grille, like the pictured G-Wagen.

Shared online by Vorsteiner, the new grille is not the icing on the cake, because it also features a wide body kit. Fender flares are obviously part of the makeover, just like the front bumper extension, and that bulging hood. At the opposite end, it has a big roof-mounted wing, and what could be a rear bumper attachment, though it is not visible in the pictures released by the German tuning company.

Wearing a classy black paint, this G 63 sports a few chrome bits and pieces, and has different side-mounted exhaust tips. It also sits a bit closer to the ground than the stock 4×4, and it rides on new wheels that also came from Vorsteiner. In the most generous size, measuring 10.5×24 inches on both axles, you are looking at $14,380 for the whole set, bar the tires. A brushed or polished surface will add $600 to the asking price, and besides the AMG G-Wagen, they can also be fitted to a whole different bunch of vehicles, including the Audi R8, RS Q8, BMW M cars, Bentley Bentayga, C8 Corvette, and several Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Porsches.

We have no clue whether they did anything to the engine, as they haven’t said anything about it in the social media embedded at the bottom of the page. But even if it is still stock, the 4.0-liter V8 engine, which is assisted by two turbochargers, still has enough grunt to pretty much defy the laws of physics for what is a brick-like shaped vehicle that weighs as much as a small shed. The mill develops 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, which translates into a top speed of 137 mph (220 kph), and a 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) sprint that takes only 4.5 seconds.

Sure, one might argue that it doesn’t come anywhere close to what a Lamborghini Urus can do, but while the Italian machine cannot do any serious off-roading, the G-Class can, no matter of the configuration, though you should at least give it some proper tires before setting off to conquer the great outdoors.

Manny Khoshbin’s Wife Gives His Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² a Chance to Shine in Photoshoot

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² is one of the latest cars to arrive in Manny Khoshbin’s garage. But while we’ll probably never get to see his wife, Leyla, drive it, she definitely enjoyed using it as a prop in a new photoshoot.

Manny Khoshbin’s garage includes a lot of limited-edition cars, most of them very expensive. Among them are several Bugattis, Pagani, and more exclusive brands. Most recently, he added a Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 Squared to his collection, which is a true beast. A big one, too.

And, in a video posted shortly after taking delivery of it, the real estate mogul revealed his wife, model Leyla Milani-Khoshbin, wasn’t too convinced of this one. And not because it’s not an impressive powerful ride, but because it is so big. He revealed he took her out for breakfast in the massive off-roader and she decided that was the “first and last” time she wanted to get inside it, because it was hard for her to get in and out of it.

But that doesn’t apply to photoshoots, too. Because one of her latest posts on social media features none other than the white Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 Squared.

She shared a short video in which she shows up wearing a black outfit combined with a fuchsia bag and jacket, passing by the Mercedes. She wrote on top of the video, “Does this car make me look small?” The answer is yes, it surely does. She begins by walking by it from the driver’s side and the massive off-roader towers over her. And we can totally get why she has trouble hopping inside it.

She also added a few pictures posing in front of it and the angle doesn’t make her seem so small. But we know the truth. However, the rugged off-roader makes for a great prop in her impromptu photoshoot.

When it comes to specs, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² truly delivers. The German premium car manufacturer described it as “the most G-Class ever.” It’s powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged M177 V8 engine, which delivers 577 horsepower (585 ps) and 627 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque to all wheels via a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Which are the same figures as those of the regular G 63, but 161 horsepower (163 ps) and 176 lb-ft (237 Nm) more than the G 550 4×4 Squared.

Mercedes has been keeping the exact performance figures under wraps. But, considering that the G 63 counterpart can go from zero to 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.5 seconds, the 4×4 Squared should cover that in around 5 seconds.

There are very slim chances that Leyla Milani-Khoshbin will try out the abilities of this ride, as she barely seems interested in getting in the driver’s seat. Until then, she can just use it for photoshoots as she just did, before going back to driving her Rolls-Royce Ghost.
